WHILDEN, JR., CHARLES V. “PETE”, 74, of Millville, died suddenly Monday evening at his residence, after a
brief illness.
Born in Ocean City, he was a
life long Millville resident. He was a graduate of Millville High School, class
of 1944, and he received his BA and Masters Degree from Glassboro State
College.
Mr. Whilden was a World War
II U.S. Navy Veteran and served as a Quarter Master 3rd Class aboard the L.S.M.
362. He was an educator and had taught at the former Bordentown Military
Institute. He had also been the former Administrative Principal of the
Pittsgrove Township School District. Most recently he was a licensed real
estate agent and an independent contractor of Life Insurance and Investment
Sales.
Pete was an active community
member, a member of the Masonic Order, and served as Past Master of the Salome
Lodge in Cedarville. He was past president of the Cumberland County Shrine
Club, and he was past Grand Tall Cedar of the Bridgeton Forest No. 7 of the
Tall Cedar of Lebanon. He was also past Sunday School Superintendent of the
Fourth United Methodist Church, Millville, He was an active member of the
U.S.S. L.S.M.- L.S.M.R. Association, the Nabb Leslie Post No. 82, American
Legion of Millville, and the YMCA Old Timers Club. He was an avid sports fan
and a history buff.
He is survived by his beloved
wife Charlene M. (Quinn); and three daughters, Marianne DeTullio of Smithville,
Holly Prohowich and son-in-law Brian of Millville, and Melissa Whilden of
Millville. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Podewill in August of 1998.
