Jacob "Jake"
C. Battaglia, 74, of Hamilton
Square, NJ, passed away at home on Thursday, May 8, 2014, surrounded by
his loving family. Born in Trenton, NJ,
he resided in Ewing, West Windsor
and Bayville, NJ,
before moving to Hamilton Township.
After graduating from Bordentown Military Institute in Bordentown,
NJ and New Mexico
Military College
in Rosewell, NM,
Jacob managed his family's business, Frank's Bar & Grill in East
Trenton before beginning a career as a truck driver for several
regional companies. Eventually, Jacob owned and operated his own company,
Jack's Four Wheel Drive Supplies in West Trenton.
Additionally, he worked as a real estate agent before concluding his career as
a driver for Mercer County's
TRADE program. In addition to his professional career, Jacob was involved in
many organizations. As Assistant Fire Chief, Fire Commissioner and Financial
Secretary, he was a life member of the West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company #1
in Dutch Neck and member of the International Fire Chiefs Association. He was a
member of the Teamsters Union, the Trenton Elks, the Trenton Council #355
Knights of Columbus, the Bishop Griffith General Assembly 4th Degree Knights of
Columbus, the West Windsor Lions Club, the Mercer County Italian-American Festival
Association and the New Jersey Beach Buggy Association. Additionally, Jacob was
a member of the Hamilton Township Republican Committee, Republican Club and was
the 2007 Hamilton Township Republican of Year. He also served on the Hamilton
Township Economic Development Advisory and Cable Advisory Commissions, and was
a lifetime member of the Sayen House. Throughout his
life, Jacob enjoyed sports, saltwater fishing and camping, was a devoted New
York Yankees and New York Giants fan, enjoyed traveling and was a proud owner
of Flat-Coated and Golden Retrievers, some of which competed in the Westminster
Dog Show. Predeceased by his parents, Louis (Wip) and
Julia C. (Slatina) Battaglia
and his loving wife of nearly 25 years, Sandra J. (Windfield-McDermott)
Battaglia; he is survived by his son and
daughter-in-law, Louis C. and Hanna Battaglia of
Robbinsville, NJ; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa M. and Paul Karlik of Hamilton, NJ; his stepson, Geoffrey McDermott and
his wife, Toni, of Boyds, MD; his grandchildren,
Samuel Battaglia, Leanne and Louis Karlik; Christopher and Danny McDermott. Funeral services
will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014,
at 11:30 a.m. at Saul Colonial Home,
3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton
Square, NJ. Interment will
follow in Ewing Cemetery
in Ewing, NJ.
Family and friends may call on Monday,
May 12, 2014, from 5:00 p.m.
to 9:00 p.m. at Saul Colonial Home.
