Lincoln
Jones III, Major General Retired and 33 year veteran of the United States Army, passed away peacefully on January 16th
in The Woodlands, Texas.
Major General Lincoln Jones III concluded 33 years of active duty service in 1990 and last served as
the Commanding General of the United States Army's Southern European Task Force
and 5th Theater Army Area Command in Vicenza, Italy. During his military career, he saw service in Hawaii, Italy, Korea, Vietnam, West Germany, Washington DC, Colorado,
Washington State, and the Panama Canal Zone.
He held various senior military command and staff positions to include;
Acting Commander and Deputy Commanding General, V Corps, Frankfurt, West
Germany; Deputy Chief of Staff for Support, Allied Land Forces Southern Europe,
Verona, Italy; Assistant Division Commander for Operations and Chief of Staff,
9th Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington; Commander 2d Brigade, 9th
Infantry Division; and Deputy Commander, 193d Infantry Brigade, Fort Kobbe, Panama Canal Zone.
He also previously served as Chairman and member of the Board of the
National Defense University Foundation (1997-2012); Chairman of the Board,
World Affairs Council of Houston (1995-1998); 2002 President and member, Board
of Directors West Point Society of Houston; Chairman Worldwide Strategic
Partners (2002); President Lincoln Associates, International Consulting;
President and Managing Director of the Integrated Business and Energy
Development Corporation of Pakistan; Vice Chairman Enron Europe (1996-1998);
and President Enron Power Corp (1993-1998).
Major General Lincoln Jones III was born at Fort
Benning, Georgia and grew up in New Brunswick, New
Jersey. He
received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY and a Master of Science in International Relations
and Political Science from Auburn University, Alabama. He is also a graduate of the United States Air Force Command and
Staff College, and the National War College, National Defense University,
Washington D.C.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alexandra (Ann) Jones of The
Woodlands, Texas, children COL Peter L. Jones (U.S. Army) and COL
Patricia A. Frost (U.S. Army), both stationed in Washington DC, and three grandchildren.
Major General Lincoln Jones III memorial service and burial will be held on 11 February 2013, 1:00 p.m. at West
Point, New York. The family requests that in lieu of flowers,
