Urban E. Saltus, Jr., 84, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at The Arbors
in Shelburne. He was born Jan. 20,
1928, in Fannie Allen
Hospital, Colchester,
son of Urban E. Saltus and Frances R. Saltus, Charlotte Street,
Burlington. Urban attended both public and
parochial schools in Burlington,
and was a high school graduate and post graduate of Bordentown Military
Institute, Bordentown, N.J.,
and received a baccalaureate degree in Civil Structural Engineering from
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y.,
Class of 1954. Urban married Elaine Yvette Pidgeon, daughter of the late Edward and Bertha Pidgeon of North Ferrisburgh, on Saturday, Aug. 22, 1953, in St.
Peter's Catholic Church, Vergennes. Urban retired April 28, 1988, completing 33
years with the New York State Department of Public Works" and completing a
total of 26 years of service with both the U.S.
Marine Corps and the U.S. Army Reserve Corp of Engineers. Urban is survived by
his wife, Elaine of Long Point, North Ferrisburgh,
and Treasure Island, Fla.; two sons, Urban E. Saltus III
of Essex Junction, and Bradley J. Saltus and wife,
Marta, of Alexandria, Va.; daughter, Cassandra S. Robinson "Cassy" of Portsmouth, N.H.; two grandchildren, Lucas
and Matthew Saltus of Alexandria, Va. A memorial
service will be held at 10:30 a.m.
on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012,
at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Vergennes. Internment will be in St. Peter's
Cemetery in Vergennes, with a reception following at American Legion Post # 14 in Vergennes.
