Walter Bradshaw '41
Walter
Leo “Brick” Bradshaw Jr died at home in the presence
of his family in Galveston, Texas, on June 21, 2012. Born in Plainfield, N.J. on March 26, 1922, he was the eldest child of Sophie and Walter
Bradshaw Sr. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 30, at St.
Patrick Church in Galveston, Texas. A Memorial Mass will be held on October 6 at his
former parish of Blessed Sacrament, Martinsville, N.J. and his ashes will be buried at sea off the Jersey
shore. Walter graduated from Plainfield High
School,
attended Bordentown Military Academy and, after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during
World War II, earned a degree in Political Science from Princeton University in 1948. Walt had an easy sense of humor, a winning
smile, and had a reputation for dressing well. He is remembered for his
enthusiastic participation in sports including football, baseball, ice hockey,
sledding, swimming, sailing, and skiing. He
truly appreciated the opportunities he had to travel with his wife, Ruth, to
the Caribbean, Mexico, and parts of Europe,
Africa, and Asia. He particularly enjoyed reading, watching
television, and vacationing at the Jersey shore,
especially Manasquan and Cape
May. Walt was preceded in
death by his beloved wife, Ruth (nee MacLaughlin),
and his sisters Frances Bradshaw, Bound Brook, NJ; Mary Knier,
Sea Girt, NJ; and Ruth Ortleb. St. Charles, MO. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Karen
Bancroft, New York, NY; Walter and Susan Bradshaw, Angel Fire, NM; Lisa and
Bill Vigliotta, Center Moriches, NY; Mark and
Jennifer Bradshaw, Califon, NJ; Tim and Lisa Bradshaw, Bedminster. NJ; Jennifer
and Kurt Feike, Galveston, TX; eleven loving grandchildren,
David, Eileen, Carolyn, Kimberley, Will, Meaghan,
Elizabeth, Vincent, Lauren, Joel, Anna; and four truly great-grandchildren,
Paul John, Anthony, Vincent, and Danya. Memorial
