William J. Wittnebert: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice
Pilot, The (Southern Pines, NC) - Tuesday, January 21, 2014
William J. Wittnebert, of Pinehurst, passed to a more peaceful place Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014.
The son of Julia LaCerra and Lester Wittnebert, he was born an only child on New Years Eve 1925 in Jersey City, N.J. He had just reached his 88th birthday.
Bill graduated from Bordentown Military Institute, college prep, with his sights set on West Point. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and subsequently attended Princeton University, where he played on the football team. For those who knew him well, Princeton clearly stole his heart.
Mary Ellen West from Westfield, N.J., caught his eye, they married and raised two girls in Westport, Conn. There he started his own firm, Fastec Inc., and enjoyed a successful career as a manufacturers rep. He was the consummate salesman.
Pinehurst was the obvious choice for their retirement as they adored golf. They made many good friends, enjoyed many good years there and remained married for 59 years until Mary Ellen's death in 2007.
Bill was predeceased by a daughter, Ellen Christine and is survived by a daughter Mary Elizabeth, of Fairfield, Conn. He remained very close to his dear cousin, Louise Roga, for his entire life. And thank you Delsie, you became a very important part of our lives as a trusted friend and caregiver.
Services will be private. Donations may be made to First Health Hospice, P.O. Box 5889 Pinehurst, NC.
I thank all of the kind people who helped my father through his illness. Love you and miss you, Dad.
