PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE                                                                                                                              April 2000

In just a few short months, Reunion 2000 will be upon us…50 years for my Class of 1950!

BMI has had a motto since its birth…"Rather Be Than Seem"…and the story I relate is both blissful and wistful. It chronicles what our Motto means. Larry and Fred Cohen were twins, Class of 1951. Never were twins so closely bonded by word and deed. They had outstanding years at BMI and then Penn State. For almost four decades thereafter, they owned and managed a diner near Providence, R.I. In the many times I saw them after BMI, they were always together as one. In early October, Larry and Fred were honored by Penn State for having endowed an athletic scholarship. During the Penn State/Indiana game the next day, Larry took ill. He was stabilized at a local hospital but in an Air Taxi back to Providence, he suffered a fatal heart attack and passed away on October 5th.

Very recently, Fred underwent double bypass and valve replacement surgery. He's doing well and hopes to attend Reunion 2000. This story was told to me by Paul Martinek, a '51 classmate who was at Penn State with Larry and Fred. RATHER BE THAN SEEM??????

We received word that Henry "Mitch" Meloney '14 passed away in August of 1999 at the age of 105 years. We honored "Mitch" as our Senior Cadet at the last Reunion, and I'm here to tell you that he walked my shoes off all over Bordentown with tales attached to just about every old house. His total recall was uncanny. He passed away just after putting the 18th green in Sedona, Arizona.

RATHER BE THAN SEEM?????? IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY??????

NEXT MUSTER – SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21ST, 2000!

                                                                                                                Most cordially,

                                                    "General"
